| Customer Reviews: Hey -- this thing works good! November 30, 2007 Gilbert Reed (Normal, IL USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this as a present for my wife, and then had second thoughts after reading the prior review, so before taking it back to OD for a refund, I decided to try it out. It is extremely easy to use. just put the destination address in using the touch screen, and navigate. It came to life quickly for me, and worked well. It gives voice warnings for turns ahead of time, and again just before the turn. You don't have to be under 30, or a geek, to use it. My wife is getting this one for Christmas.
Sluggish GPS reception October 15, 2007 K. T. Chiang (Fairfax VA) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
Just bought one due to excellent advertised price and features (MP3, video, and eBook). But this unit fails to deliver what matters the most - quick and reliable reception of GPS satellite signals. In three different tries in suburban No. Virginia, the unit managed to acquire satellite after 25 minutes, 7 minutes, and 5 minutes. If you don't mind the initial loooooong wait for the unit to acquire satellite signal, then this unit is not all that bad. I returned mine to the store since I don't have the patience.
No signal June 25, 2008 C. M. Valley (Fort Smith, AR United States) Worked for over an hour to acquire a signal. Never did so sent it back.
Maxx Digital Explorer I GPS is Worthless March 4, 2009 Carsten C. Johnson (Richmond VA) I received the Maxx Digital Explorer I GPS for Christmas and trust my brother to give me something that should be tossed in the trash. What does it do? You turn it on and it stays frozen on the first screen. I have not gotten any service out of it. You would get better directions with a compass. I am reasonably sure this is a glitch that is happening to a lot of people out there and they are biting their tongue thinking they aren't using it right. Don't buy anything with the Maxx Brand name on it. You will be sorry.
